I was visiting the Clinton Library with some of my
family, the day after my father's memorial service. As we stood outside
the building, I happened to glance up at the flags outside, and noticed
the contrail of a passing jet. Of course, I immediately snapped a shot of
what looked to me like an interesting view, but I didn't really expect
much. When I looked at the image on my computer, though, I noticed the
sun's rays in the upper right corner, falling on the flags below, and
suddenly the image of flag, jet, and sunbeam took on a larger meaning for
me.
The meaning was magnified by the emotion of the moment. It seemed to me
not only a salute to our flag and our nation, but a fitting sendoff to my
dad, a veteran of two wars.
